BLACKsummer'snight Tour
Concert Review
Erica Ruth 11/09
As a writer, my process is to speak my ideas into a voice recorder. Later, I listen to the recording and then
I begin to write. Something about talking it out seems to give the ideas better form, than writing it out from start to finish. This day, I'm in a hurry, on my way to a business meeting,
traveling down the highway. I decide to crunch time, I speak out my random memories off the Blacksummer'snight Concert, while
traveling about 70 mph.
When I began to replay the audio file I was intrigued by the mental images I received while listening to
what were supposed to be random memories of the concert. The memories were strung along quite orderly, a well thought out summary of what the experience was like. I loved it (In spite of my slips of the tongue and grammar
errors). The emotional authenticity could never be duplicated!

Singer-songwriter and producer, Maxwell, returns to the music scene after a self appointed eight year haitus. Stardom, lights, flashing cameras, and jets can be a distraction from the aspects of life that matter most. In order to create from his soul, with no concerns for external factors, he decided to take a break. The time away allowed him to write music that comes from living life, as a real person. This is the way he creates music that people can feel.
He is greeted with excitement and joy from all those who enjoy his music. His "BLACKsummers'night" CD debuted at #1 on the Billboard Album's Top 200. It is the first release of a trilogy. The second CD, "blackSUMMERS'night",
will be released in 2010. The final CD, "blacksummers'NIGHT", will come out in 2011.

During an interview with Tavis Smiley, Maxwell talks about his evolution as an artist.
"The time away helped... I just literally went back to, oh yeah, this beat sounds great, this melody feels good."

Maxwell began his music career singing in the baptist church. His love for music grew, and he began writing songs at age 17, with an inexpensive Casio keyboard, given to him by a friend. The gift of music kept on giving, his skills developed swiftly, and soon thereafter, he was performing on the New York club circuit. In 1994 he signed a recording contract with Columbia Records.
